Gardening is fun at our house. Weeds are not. Oh my, we cannot seem to spend enough time weeding! We laugh as we construct another garden. This past spring we planted 5 Flemish Pear trees. We have just begun. Plant traits are of great interest as well as for appearance or show.
Vegetables are ordered, primarily, from http://www.fedcoseeds.com in Maine. There is constant experimentation as we search for winter hardy seeds. I like to save my own seed from well performing plants.
Sharing seeds is a common practice. I would say my two main goals are to create beauty and the best vegetables, fruits and herbs that we can grow from our Montana location. We do enjoy a, “Lake effect”, from Flathead Lake. This means warmer temperatures.
Soil is a number one effort. We use a peat moss that is scraped from the bottom of a Montana Lake. It gives us wonderful nutrients and great drainage.
Our water is abundant, clean, and from the mountain top behind our orchard. We have a very high tech, wonderful irrigation system. We appreciate our good water everyday.
All of our gardens are organic. We grow nearly everything we might need for great meals during the winter. We chuckle, going to the store is still necessary. Our supply load can be heavy. It is usually the baking supplies, oils, meats, and household products. Overall, we grow our vegetables and the good foods on our table.
